Congratulations to Nondumiso Nkosi, the Michaelis Tierney Fellow for 2022/3
Fourth year student, Nondumiso Nkosi is the 2022/23 Tierney Fellow for UCT. She joins her colleagues, Nishay Phenkoo (from Wits) and Sibusiso Gcaba (from the Market Photo Workshop MPW). Nondumiso is mentored by Jean Brundit (UCT), Cedric Nunn is the MPW mentor and Natasha Christopher is the mentor from WITS.
Nondumiso and Jean attended the first fellowship workshop of the year in Johannesburg in mid- October. Here Nondomiso received feedback on her project from Bekie Ntini (MPW),
Loyiso Oldjohn (MPW) and guests Andrew Tshabangu, Nkululeko Khumalo, Rita Potenza, Rolihlahla Mhlanga and Neo Ntsoma. In addition fellows had a feedback session with former fellows CJ Chandler, Tshepiso Mazibuko, Nocebo Bucibo and Tsepo Gumbi. We look forward to the second workshop at Michaelis in February 2023.
Nondumiso says that “Photography has become a means of portraying the realities of life, the realities of expression. I see photography as a medium that captures the result of a process. A process of healing, reflection, and confrontation with the things that make us uncomfortable and vulnerable”. Her project deals with the family photograph, memory and loss.
Well done Nondumiso!
