Michaelis Staff Master's Graduates!

In this graduation cycle two Michaelis staff members were conferred with Master’s degrees. Principal Technical in New Media, Melvin Pather received a Master of Education for his dissertation “Fine Arts alumni reflections on curriculum and coursework in relation to global arts education: a social realist case study” and Administrative Assistant Zainab Gaffoor received a Master of English Literary Studies for her dissertation “The Secret Lives of Polygamous Wives: African Feminist Consciousness and Writing in Selected Nigerian Polygamous Narratives.”
Two days later they presented joint research at the Assessment in the Age of AI: Principles, Practices, and Innovations for the Future of Learning symposium held by the University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University. Their presentation titled “Navigating the Intersection of AI and Fine Art: Ethical Policies and Educational Strategies at the Michaelis School of Fine Art” explored AI policy, methods of identifying AI usage, and how critical thinking and original conceptual development remain valuable keystones of teaching within the department.
