Mawande Ka Zenzile completed his BA Fine Art at the Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2014. He won the Michaelis Prize in 2013. He currently has a solo exhibition on show at the Stevenson gallery, Cape Town, titled Statecraft. Ka Zenzile has been a regular participant in academic conferences within the University of Cape Town. He is currently studying towards his Master’s of Art in Fine Art (MAFA) degree at the Michaelis School of Fine Art.
The title of his presentation is ‘a problem we didn’t create’.

Dr. Martinez-Ruiz earned his B.A. from Havana University in 1994 and his Ph.D. from Yale in 2004. He is an Art Historian with expertise in African and Caribbean artistic, visual, and religious practices. After holding positions at Havana’s High Institute of Art from 1993-1997, the Rhode Island School of Design from 2002-2004 and in Stanford University’s Department of Art and Art History from 2004-2013, Dr. Martinez-Ruiz came to the University Of Cape Town in 2014. He is currently Head of History of Art & Discourse of Art at the Michaelis School of Fine Art.

Nomusa Makhubu has a PhD in Art History and Visual Culture. She has also practiced as an artist and has had artworks exhibited in South Africa, France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Swaziland, China and Reunion Island. In 2010, she completed her fellowship with the Omooba Yemisi Adedoyin Shyllon Art Foundation (OYASAF) in Nigeria. Her current research focuses on African Popular Culture. She lectures Art History at Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town. Her talk is based on a recent presentation entitled ‘Doing things differently: Re-thinking the Discipline of Art History in African contexts’.
