The Centre for Social Sciences Research (CSSR) and the Institute for Democracy, Citizenship and Public Policy in Africa (IDCPPA) at the University of Cape Town invite you to join us for a lunchtime seminar on 17 September 2024 at 12:45pm. The seminar will be presented by Martina Mchenga.
About the Seminar:
How is peer support linked to sexual risk behaviours among AGYW who married early or mothering?
Adolescent motherhood and early child marriage are common in the Eastern and Southern Africa: Almost 20% become mothers before 20 and 32% are estimated to become married before 19. These two early experiences can increase the likelihood of HIV exposure and acquisition among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW).In this analysis, we explore experiences of HIV-related sexual risk behaviours among AGYW in five countries (Mozambique, Kenya, Lesotho, Namibia, and Zimbabwe, n=22,352), assessing the role of peer support in reducing these risks, including sub-analyses by motherhood and early marriage.
