The Konstantin Sofianos Scholarship provides financial support to exceptional Honours students enrolled in the English Literature Honours programme at the University of Cape Town (UCT). The scholarship was established in 2015, following the untimely death of Konstantin Sofianos (1983 – 2015), a lecturer at UCT’s English Department.

Scholarship applications are open to all students who have been accepted to the English Honours programme at UCT for 2022. The scholarship is awarded annually to one student, with the amount currently standing at R30,000 (ZAR).

Selection of the winner is decided on the strength of a literary essay written by applicants – and not on the basis of other determiners, like an academic record or financial background. A new topic is selected each year. This year’s essay topic will be published on 18 October 2021, with submissions closing on 20 January 2022.
