Dr. Victoria J. Collis-Buthelezi took up a lectureship in English in 2012. Her current book project, Empire, Nation, Diaspora: Cape Town and Constituting a Black Archive, refigures the black archive with discarded imagined futures that precede anti-colonial nationalisms, one of which centered around Cape Town and the British empire. She is a research fellow of the Archive and Public Culture Research Initiative at UCT and co-founder of the Diaspora Working Group, a research platform housed in the universitys English department and the Centre for African Studies. She is a book series for Race and Resistance in the Long Twentieth Century out of Peter Lang Oxford. Her research interests are Caribbean studies, African and African diaspora literature, and black intellectual and literary history. She offers the following undergraduate seminars: South Africa and the Black Atlantic, Calibans Words: Black Writers, Modernist Texts, and An Island Is a World: Caribbean Writing, Decolonization, and the Postcolony. She co-teaches a course in the MA core with Dr. Christopher Ouma entitled Revolutionary Modernities that follows links and points of divergence between between African and African diaspora intellectuals. She runs an postgraduate elective based on her current book project entitled, Crisis of Diaspora.
