Zama Mvulane

  • Bio 

    Zama Airy Mvulane is a PhD candidate at the University of Cape Town’s Department of Political Studies. He is the Executive Head of the Office of the Chief Whip of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) in the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa. He has had an illustrious career since joining the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa after he graduated from UCT. He has served as a researcher to various committees and office bearers of the Parliament of South Africa, including various Chief Whips, Acting Chief Whips and Whips of the NCOP, the Select Committee on Education and Recreation, the Select Committee on Social Services, the Joint Standing Committee on Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities, the African Peer Review Mechanisms (APRM), the Pan African Parliament (PAP), and the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Parliamentary Forum and the People’s Assembly.

    He holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Public Affairs and Administration (1998), an Honours in Public Affairs and Administration (1999), and a Master of Public Affairs and Administration (2001) from the University of Cape Town.

    Legislative Party Cohesion, Congruence and Discipline in the Parliament of South Africa Between 1994 and 2024”.

    It focuses on legislative party cohesion, congruence and discipline in the Parliament of South Africa since the country-wide first democratic elections that marked the end of minority rule and the dawn of democracy in 1994. It examines the dimensions and patterns of legislative party cohesion, congruence and discipline, as well as the factors and strategic incentives associated with the cohesiveness, congruence and discipline of legislative party members in a young democracy such as South Africa.
