ODDKIN: Masters Group Exhibition

ODDKIN considers the disorderly connection and serendipitous alliance amongst members of the 2023 MA and MFA Groups that have found themselves sharing ideas, space and time (cross-pollinating?). The exhibition borrows its title from the (Donna Haraway’s) idea of 'making oddkin,’ which describes a contemporary need for unexpected collaborations and combinations; for new and unpredictable kinships that are formed beyond the usual lines of relation. We use it in both the general and the specific to refer to the “congeries of associations that everyone is”, and also the ways in which the artists we present, each in their own way, facilitate unexpected kinships, or, as Haraway might put it, make oddkin. In this context, the artists' work emerges as a cohesive reflection on identity, myth, and uncertainty in the face of unprecedented social and planetary change.
