Alfredo Jaar lunchtime lecture at Michaelis
On Wednesday, 4 April, Alfredo Jaar presented a guest lecture as part of the Michaelis Lunchtime Lecture series. Jaar is an esteemed artist, architect, and filmmaker who considers social injustices and human suffering through thought-provoking installations. Using photography, film and installation he has explored significant political and social issues including genocide, the displacement of refugees, and the balance of power between the first and third world.
Jaar was in Cape Town for his solo exhibition Geometries of Solitude, at the Goodman Gallery, which focusses on an early body of works dedicated to the refugee experience. He gave a moving presentation about a selection of his projects relating to immigration including One Million German Passports and The Gift.
With thanks to the Goodman Gallery.
