Master's degrees by coursework and minor dissertation.

The Master's qualification offered by the School can be pursued either by coursework or by research only. Most programmes, unless specified otherwise, offer full-time courses and intake is in February each year. Applications close on 31 October. There are nine (9) possible areas of M.Ed. specialisation (click on specialisation to contact convener): The M.Ed. is offered in the following specialisms:  

  • Adult Education
  • Curriculum Studies
  • Education Policy, Leadership & Change [no new intake for 2025]
  • Educational Technology 
  • Higher Education Studies
  • Language and Literacy Studies
  • Mathematics Education
  • Science Education
  • Psychology of Education [NB: This specialisation focuses on psychological approaches to understanding teaching and learning. You will NOT be able to use this degree to register with the HPCSA.]
