The Master's qualification offered by the School can be pursued either by coursework or by research only. Most programmes, unless specified otherwise, offer full-time courses and intake is in February each year. Applications close on 31 October. There are nine (9) possible areas of M.Ed. specialisation (click on specialisation to contact convener): The M.Ed. is offered in the following specialisms:

- Curriculum Studies
- Education Policy, Leadership & Change
- Educational Technology (no new intake for 2024)
- Higher Education Studies
- Language and Literacy Studies
- Mathematics Education
- Science Education
- Psychology of Education [NB: This specialisation focuses on psychological approaches to understanding teaching and learning. You will NOT be able to use this degree to register with the HPCSA.]
