Carlo Germeshuys specializes in critical theory. His doctoral dissertation, ‘Alain Badiou, Jacques Rancière and Slavoj Žižek on the relation between politics and aesthetics’, compares the work of contemporary philosophers Alain Badiou, Jacques Rancière and Slavoj Žižek on the relation between politics and aesthetics, with a particular focus on their engagement with 20th and 21st Century Marxisms. His other research and teaching interests include English and European modernism, contemporary American fiction, film studies, and Afrikaans literature.
