Knowledge exchange workshops - Campo Grande, Brazil
I recently presented a workshop on the Open Educational Resource in Indigenous Games in Africa (OERiGA) at Dom Bosco Catholic University (PPGE-UCDB) in Campo Grande, Brazil, hosted by the Prof. Dr. Maria Cristina Lima Paniago. The OERiGA project is a vital initiative aimed at documenting indigenous games in Africa and openly sharing this knowledge as an Open Educational Resource (OER). One of our key objectives with OERiGA is to establish a digital archive of indigenous games, creating a documentation of knowledge at risk of extinction. Additionally, we aim to integrate these games into educational practices, promoting a decolonized approach that makes learning both enjoyable and meaningful. During the workshop, I engaged participants in the practical exercise of sketching and analysing various indigenous games through the lens of the Afrocentric philosophy of Ubuntu. This approach not only fosters communal values but also highlights the significance of shared knowledge and experience. Some of the games that emerged from our collaborative efforts included Five Maria (jogo 5 Maria’s), Empinar Pipa / Pandorga, Elástico, Bola de gude, Peteca, Corre Cotia, and Queimada. Each game represents a unique cultural heritage that we strive to preserve and celebrate.
I also delivered a public lecture to around 50 technicians from the Elementary and Secondary Education Division of the Municipal Department of Education in Campo Grande.
