On March 1, 2025, Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod (NNSU) hosted the "Ambassadors of Russian Culture in Africa" project, an initiative that brought together students from the UCT and NNSU to celebrate cultural exchange and understanding. As part of the project, Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) students from UCT participated in a series of engaging masterclasses that provided them with an immersive experience of Russian culture.

The programme featured interactive sessions where students explored traditional Russian games, art, and cuisine, fostering a deep appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of the region. UCT participants also had the opportunity to connect virtually with their peers at NNSU. This collaboration allowed students to practice their English language skills while exchanging ideas about their respective cultures, further enhancing their global perspectives.

The South African coordination team, led by Professor Joanne Hardman, Dr. Ekaterina Rzyankina, and Mr. Litha Tyulu, worked alongside the Russian team, headed by Dr. Ngoma. Together, they emphasized the project's primary goal of building an international community and promoting tolerance and understanding among diverse cultures. “The ‘Ambassadors of Russian Culture in Africa’ project is an essential step towards fostering connections between students from different parts of the world,” said Dr. Ngoma. “We believe that by engaging in cultural exchange, we can cultivate a greater appreciation for each other’s traditions and values.” Looking ahead, the project organizers expressed hope for the continuation of such programmes, aiming to implement similar workshops in other countries. These future initiatives will not only offer participants a chance to experience the vibrant cultural diversity of South Africa but also reinforce the importance of dialogue and cooperation between nations.

As the world continues to face challenges related to cultural divides, projects like this highlight the necessity of collaboration in building a more tolerant and interconnected global community.
