Professor John Higgins from UCT's English Department, was recently chosen as one of three international judges for the British Sociological Association/Sage Prize for the best and most innovative article appearing in the journal Cultural Sociology in 2010.

Alongside his fellow judges - Professor Mimi Sheller (Drexel University, USA) and Professor Nancy Hanrahan (George Mason University, USA) - Professor Higgins selected Jeremy Tanner's essay 'Michael Baxandall and the Sociological Interpretation of Art' for the transformative way it cast new light on Baxandall's contribution to the contemporary understanding of the social dynamics of artistic production.
