Professor Jay Pather receives the UCT Creative Works Award for 2016 for his production ‘Qaphela Caesar!’. His work is a modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar that combines performance art, theatre and contemporary dance in one spectacular and quintessentially South African production.

The original production of ‘Qaphela Caesar’ was the result of Pather receiving the Donald Gordon Art Award in 2009, via the Gordon Institute for the Performing and Creative Arts (GIPCA). The production was initially staged by UCT Drama students and has gone on to be presented to critical acclaim on the professional stage.
