Opera UCT’s breathtaking production of Benjamin Britten’s The Turn of the Screw opened last night to a captivated audience, setting the stage for an extraordinary opera experience. With only three performances remaining, this haunting masterpiece runs until 23 November at the Baxter Theatre.

Directed by the internationally renowned Harriet Taylor, the production features movement direction by Scott Howland and gothic-inspired sets by Cape Town’s own Marcel Meyer. Jeremy Silver, Director of Opera UCT and conductor for this thrilling opera, leads an exceptional cast and chamber orchestra. The chamber orchestra, composed of talented musicians from Cape Town, brings Britten's chilling and atmospheric score to life, immersing audiences in this gothic tale.

Britten’s operatic adaptation of Henry James’ gothic novella takes audiences on a suspenseful journey into a world of mystery and psychological tension. The gripping performances by the Opera UCT cast, paired with Britten’s evocative score, make this production a standout event on Cape Town’s cultural calendar.
