The Mind of the Brain - Neuroscience Institute Installations

Pippa Skotnes and Fritha Langerman have recently completed installations for the new Neuroscience Institute building at Groote Schuur Campus, UCT. Skotnes’sartwork, The Mind of the Brain, drawing on a visual history of representations of the brain, imagines the mind located both within its neural networks and as the entity by which its workings are uncovered. Langerman’s makes reference to iconography from neuroscience Nobel Prize winners Ramón y Cajal and Camillo Golgi as well as images and objects derived from the institute to celebrate the discipline and the donors who contributed to the development of the building.
