The CSSR’s webinar series has resumed in the 2nd semester

The CSSR’s webinar series has resumed in the 2^nd semester, around the theme of ‘COVID, State and Society’. The first webinar was presented on 10^th August by Professor Nicoli Nattrass on ‘Science, high modernism and state failure in South Africa’s response to COVID-19’ (on work conducted with Jeremy Seekings). Nicoli examined the high modernist vaccination ‘plan’ unveiled by the South African National Department of Health and its subversion from above (as special interests jockeyed for privileged access to vaccines) and below (as citizens and health workers on the ground implemented systems that actually worked). CSSR webinars are held on Tuesday lunchtime, more-or-less fortnightly.
