Khanyisa Ngemfundo launches an innovative toolkit to support pregnant and mother learners in South African secondary schools
The Adolescent Accelerators Research Hub for the Khanyisa Ngemfundo project has developed a groundbreaking toolkit designed for educators who engage with pregnant and mother learners in South African secondary schools. This toolkit aims to provide comprehensive guidance to educators, including members of the School-Based Support Team, on how best to support these learners throughout their school journey and help them complete their education.
The toolkit is the culmination of extensive research conducted by the Khanyisa Ngemfundo (Be the Light Through Education) project, based in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. The research aimed to explore and understand support mechanisms for pregnant and mother learners within the school system. Through in-depth conversations with educators, learners, programme implementers, and government stakeholders, valuable insights and suggestions were gathered, shaping the development of this essential resource.
This initiative underscores a commitment to enhancing educational experiences and outcomes for all learners, ensuring that pregnant and mother learners receive the support they need to thrive academically and personally. This toolkit is expected to be an invaluable resource for educators dedicated to fostering inclusive and supportive school environments.
