CSSR launches new Social Intervention Research Unit
The Centre for Social Science Research is proud to announce the launch of the Social Intervention Research Unit (SIRU), a dynamic, multi-disciplinary hub dedicated to research and action that addresses pressing social challenges.
Housed within the University of Cape Town’s Department of Social Work & Social Development, SIRU brings together academic staff, postgraduate students, and key stakeholders to produce evidence-based research that informs interventions, programmes, and policies at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels.
"We are Social Workers and Social Development practitioners who seek to engage in impactful, innovative, transformative, multi-disciplinary, evidence-based work. We produce knowledge that is based in partnership with students, researchers, civil society organisations, communities, government departments, using mixed methods approaches, participatory approaches, and social intervention research approaches that lead to concrete, real-life change and improvements in the lives of poor and vulnerable groups in our society" - Dr. Khosi Kubeka, SIRU Director.
SIRU’s work will focus on:
- Driving innovative, high-quality social intervention research in areas of strategic relevance.
- Building collaborative, cross-disciplinary research teams.
- Providing a supportive environment for emerging scholars and postgraduate researchers.
- Strengthening partnerships that connect research to practice.
- Disseminating practical, evidence-based interventions to address real-world problems.
The CSSR looks forward to seeing SIRU’s work shape conversations, policies, and interventions that can improve lives across South Africa and beyond.
