Biography

Margie Schneider holds a BSc in Logopaedics (Speech and Language therapy and Audiology) from the University of Cape Town; MA in Applied Linguistics from Reading University, UK; PhD in Public Health from Wits University. Her thesis title was "The Social life of questionnaires: Exploring respondents’ understanding and interpretation of disability measures."  

After leaving the field of Audiology and Speech-language therapy, Margie moved into broader social science research. focusing on disability measurement, integrating disability in social protection programmes, and research in public mental health.  She has worked as a lecturer in Audiology at City University, London, and WITS University before moving into broader social science research working in Research-focused NGOs, World Health Organisation in Geneva, the Human Sciences Research Council and the University of Cape Town.
