Lunchtime seminar: Chelsea Coakley, Mona Ibrahim & Pertina Nyamukondiwa
12:45 - 14:00 SAST
The Centre for Social Sciences Research (CSSR) and the Institute for Democracy, Citizenship and Public Policy in Africa (IDCPPA) at the University of Cape Town invite you to join us for a lunchtime seminar on 27 January 2026 at 12:45pm. The seminar will be presented by Chelsea Coakley, Mona Ibrahim & Pertina Nyamukondiwa.
About the Seminar:
Trauma informed research: Our principles, practice, and approach
What does it mean to conduct trauma-informed research? This CSSR seminar moves beyond procedural ethics and check box exercises to examine how trauma shapes participation, power, and knowledge production. The focus will be on surfacing assumptions, learning from diverse experiences, and collective problem-solving across CSSR teams.
Together, we will examine how trauma shapes research design, researcher wellbeing, and participant engagement, reflecting on how trauma-informed principles can be embedded into everyday research decisions, and across the research cycle. Unlike the traditional presentation plus Q&A structure, this seminar is deliberately discussion-based throughout, prioritising collective reflection, peer exchange, and applied learning.
