The Institute for Democracy, Citizenship and Public Policy in Africa (IDCPPA) and the Centre for Social Sciences Research at the University of Cape Town invites you to join us for a special seminar on 1 August 2023 presented by Dr. Gosia Lipinska 12:45pm.

About the Seminar:

Sleep for Mental Health

Person in bed unable to sleep

Dr. Gosia Lipinska is interested in the relationship between sleep and cognitive-affective functioning. In today’s society many people experience sleep deprivation for a variety of reasons and as a consequence report difficulties with memory and emotional regulation. She is interested in how healthy sleep promotes memory consolidation and stable emotional functioning. She also investigates how individuals with psychiatric difficulties and co-occurring sleep disruption experience these cognitive affective difficulties. Those are her core research foci, but she is also interested in the intersection of sleep, exercise and health.

Speaker:

Dr. Gosia Lipinska is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Psychology, University of Cape Town, where she heads up UCT Sleep Sciences and does clinical neuropsychological teaching.
