Since starting in 2015 through the support of the Mellon Foundation, FaSRU has grown to include 13 postgraduate students, including, nine PhD students, two masters’ students and two honours students. The Unit has published two books, one special issue and several articles in the areas of families, care, inequalities, social protection and customary law. Four students have obtained doctoral degrees and many more have obtained a masters and honours degrees. The Unit hosts monthly postgraduate research meetings and an additional reading group, which in 2020 focuses on custom and colonialism in the 19th century.
