At the Third International Conference on National Evaluation Capacities in Sao Paulo, Brazil, 2015 was declared the International Year of Evaluation. The aim of
designating 2015 as the International Year of Evaluation is to advocate and promote evaluation and evidence-based policy making at international, regional, national and local levels. The universities of Cape Town and Stellenbosch, the only South African universities that present named degrees in programme evaluation, celebrated The Year of Evaluation by paying tribute to the academics who had played a major role in building evaluation capacity in Africa. Two staff members of the Department of Psychology were honoured in this way: Prof Johann Louw and Emeritus Assoc Prof Andy Dawes.
