The Hub was honoured to host Prof. Nelson Maldonado-Torres in the Psychology Department. At the invitation of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), Prof Maldonado-Torres embarked on a tour of academic institutions within the republic. At UCT he met with faculty staff and activists, delivered a public lecture “Reflections on Decoloniality in the Global South: A Presentation in Five Scenes”, and engaged in reflexive dialogue with student activists on what has happened and where we find ourselves “Four Years Since Rhodes Must Fall Movements” started. Prof. Maldonado-Torres specialises in transdisciplinary de-colonial thought, race theory, and in the work of the Caribbean and African philosopher and psychiatrist Frantz Fanon. He has been Director of the Center for Latino Policy Research at the University of California, Berkeley (2009-2010), and Chair of the Department of Latino and Caribbean Studies at Rutgers (2012-2015). He is a board member of the Frantz Fanon Foundation in Paris, France, and honorary member of the Fausto Reinaga Foundation in La Paz, Bolivia.
