Co-edited by Archive and Public Culture's NRF Chair Carolyn Hamilton, along with Robert Ross and Bernard K Mbenga, the Cambridge History of South Africa, volume 1: From early times to 1885 was recently listed as one of Choice magazine's Outstanding Academic Titles for 2010.

The volume also features outstanding chapters by 2011 APC Research Fellow Simon Hall and APC Research Associate John Wright.

Choice is the most important publication targeting academic libraries in the US, with each issue reviewing hundreds of academic titles in a wide variety of fields. Out of the more than 25 000 titles submitted to Choice, less than three percent were selected.

'Delighted' by the news of this accolade, History and Politics Editor at Cambridge University Press Eric Crahan said the publisher would be 'featuring the book at the American Library Association meetings, including it in an annual advertisement announcing prize winners in the New York Review of Books', and recommending it 'for further classroom adoptions'.
