After three intensive days of working Night and Day during the October workshop, the APC celebrated in festive style the arrival of Summertime - and found that the living was easy.

It turns out that a number of us have hidden yearnings to drop the day job. Who would have guessed? At Carolyn Hamilton's invitation, we got to give rein to our non-cerebral selves and make music together over a glass or three of vino.

Thozokane Mhlambi created magic on his cello, with Niklas Zimmer beside him intuiting his way on the drums. They were followed by a wannabee jazz quartet, with Zimmer on drums, Hedley Twidle on sax and yours truly on vocals, held together by jazz guitarist James Kibby. On that mellifluous sax of his, Twidle made us feel we were in a jazz bar in Soho.

Simon Hall braved a dislocated finger, to treat us to a few of his own jazz compositions on his guitar. And, as the evening gentled down into Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars, John Wright showed us the deep resonance of his voice - we might have guessed - with an acapella rendition of The Rose. There's no doubt more hidden talent in waiting to be discovered at the next gathering. Watch this space...
