Mataga takes up new position at Sol Plaatje University

The APC congratulates former APC doctoral student Dr Jesmael “Jay” Mataga on his appointment as a senior lecturer at the newly established Sol Plaatje University in Kimberley.  

Jesmael was a PhD fellow in the Archive and Public Culture Research Initiative with registration in African Studies and completed his PhD in 2014. He worked on the politics of heritage in Rhodesia and Zimbabwe and was supervised by Professor Carolyn Hamilton and Professor Nick Shepherd. He is currently an APC research associate.  

Previously Jesmael taught at the University of Zimbabwe and had been in the Department of Historical Studies at the National University of Lesotho since 2007. He joins the Heritage Studies programme at the Sol Plaatje University and is assisting in building the Bachelor of Arts programme for the university.
