Jessica van Rensburg

Jessica Natasha van Rensburg (née Brown) is a candidate in the Master of Arts in Fine Art programme through the Michaelis School of Fine Art. She is also a participant in both the Archive & Public Culture (APC) and Centre for Curating the Archive (CCA) initiatives at UCT, under the dual supervision of professors Pippa Skotnes and Carolyn Hamilton. Her dissertation, ‘Ethics of the Dust: on the care of a university art collection’, examines the shifting roles performed by the University of Cape Town (UCT) Permanent Works of Art Collection over time (from its embryonic beginnings in 1911 to the present), in order to determine its relevance and status, as well as to explore the custodial responsibilities it has toward the art objects in its care.
