Rosemary Lombard

Rosemary Lombard is currently enrolled in the University of Cape Town’s interdisciplinary Heritage and Public Culture MPhil programme, and engaged in research for her Masters dissertation.

She is looking at the colonial networks of circulation set in motion by Austrian missionary Franz Mayr in KwaZulu-Natal at the turn of the last century. Mayr collected and disseminated a diverse array of objects to museums and the European benefactors he relied on to fund his missionary work, and Lombard is tracing the relationships that have been created by this activity through time and the archive. Her supervisors are Anette Hoffmann, Carolyn Hamilton, and Nick Shepherd, and her subject matter falls broadly within the mandate of the Five Hundred Year Archive Project.
