UCT Hosts 10th Anniversary Symposium of Rhodes Must Fall
The University of Cape Town (UCT) will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Rhodes Must Fall (RMF) movement with a symposium reflecting on its impact on student activism, institutional transformation, and social justice discourse in South Africa and beyond.
The event, scheduled for Wednesday, 9 April 2025, will take place at The Centre for African Studies Gallery, UCT Upper Campus, from 15:00 to 18:00 SAST. It will feature a keynote address by Professor Shose Kessi, Dean of Humanities, as well as remarks from:
- Professor Mosa Moshabela, UCT Vice-Chancellor
- Professor Elelwani Ramugondo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Transformation, Student Affairs and Social Responsiveness
- Professor Suren Pillay, AC Jordan Chair and Director of the Centre for African Studies
In addition to these discussions, attendees can look forward to a short film screening and a panel discussion featuring RMF activists, the UCT Students' Representative Council, staff representatives, the Black Academic Caucus, and the UCT Association of Black Alumni.
