Londi Gamedze
In her 2010 Honours dissertation and as an APC fellow, Londi Gamedze dealt with the relationship between truth and fiction in the fictionalised memoirs of JM Coetzee, considering that the putative status of memoir is historical. In her MA in Literature at the University of Cape Town, Gamedze explored subject formation and racial ambiguity in the post-apartheid Bildungsroman, showing that in a highly racialised society, to be outside of race may be to exist outside of language. She is currently a PhD student in English at the University of California, Berkeley. Her interests lie in contemporary fiction from Africa and the African diaspora, the novel, intergenerational family memory, critical race theory, affect, and mixed-race studies.
