Research Interests: Ancient philosophy; Greek and Latin poetry
Matthew completed his undergraduate and master's degrees at UCT and his PhD at the University of St Andrews (Scotland). His most recent research is on madness in Socratic philosophy, and he is broadly interested in ancient literature, psychology, and thought. He also works on intellectual and inter-cultural identity politics in the ancient world, and on the reception of Classics in South Africa. He is curator of the UCT Classics museum and Editorial Assistant for the journal Phronesis.
