Course entry requirements: Acceptance for an honours programme

Course outline:  

Selected author/s in Italian poetry from the 14th to the 21st century according to deliberation and current departmental expertise and research. The aim of this course is to expose students to senior studies, in a research mode, in Italian poetry, its history and the analysis of it.

DP requirements: Submission of all oral and written work, including one long essay of at least 6000 words, counting 50%.

SLL4026F – Post-colonial and Contemporary Italian Cultural Studies

Course entry requirements: Acceptance for an honours programme

Course outline: 

This course investigates the Italian diaspora and diasporic writings inside and outside Italy, including South Africa, as well as negotiation with non-canonical subject matter and forms. It may also include the study of Italian popular culture and film.

Course outline: 

Selected author/s in Italian prose (fiction, non-fiction and drama) from the 14th to the 21st century according to deliberation and current departmental expertise and research. The aim of this course is to expose students to senior studies, in a critical research mode, in Italian prose, its history and the analysis of it.

DP requirements:  Submission of all oral and written work, including one long essay of at least 6000 words, counting 50%.

SLL4028S – Advanced Italian Languages Studies

Course entry requirements: Acceptance for an honours programme

Course title: 

Course outline: 

Studies in the grammatical analysis of selected Italian texts, translation (Italian/English and English/Italian), and studies in the didactics of Italian, especially as a foreign language. The aim of the course is to refine to a degree of expertise the language capability of students and to equip them for translation work and the teaching of Italian as a foreign language.

DP requirements:  Submission of all oral and written work, including one long essay of at least 6000 words, counting 50%.
