The Spanish Language and Literature Section of the School of Languages and Literatures at the University of Cape Town aims to give students a thorough knowledge of the Spanish language and the ability to understand and interpret Spanish texts and cultures. We offer basic, intermediate and advanced level courses in Spanish. The subject can be taken as a major. Postgraduate courses include a taught BA Honours, Masters and Doctorate by thesis only. Apart from the Spanish language courses, the Section contributes to the School-based course European Literary Influences.

Majoring in Spanish Language and Literature (SPA)
Students will be admitted to the Spanish Section whether or not they have already studied Spanish. The courses offered by the Spanish Section are designed for students of Spanish as a foreign language. Students for whom Spanish is a second or home language will be accepted under certain conditions, and after prior discussion with the Section Head.
