The French Language and Literature Section of the School of Languages and Literatures at the University of Cape Town is home to a wide range of courses in French Language, Literature, Business French and Teaching French as a Foreign Language.
Students will be admitted to the French Section whether or not they have already studied French. The courses offered by the French Section are designed for students learning French as a foreign language. Students for whom French is a second or home language will be accepted under certain conditions, and after prior discussion with the Section Head.
Undergraduate Courses
Undergraduate courses offered by the French section fall into two main categories:
- French Language and Literature and
- Business French
Either of these can be taken as an undergraduate major.
Postgraduate Courses
‘French Language and Literature’ is offered as a one-year BA Honours degree and as a two-year Masters by dissertation (Coursework Masters is only offered in TFFL)
The Section also offers a one-year BA Honours and One-year Coursework Masters (with minor dissertation) in ‘Teaching French as a Foreign Language‘ (TFFL).
