SLL REC Roles and Responsibilities
The SLL Research Ethics Committee (REC) is responsible for overseeing the ethical requirements of research conducted by students or staff in the department in order to ensure the protection of the rights, dignity and well-being of research participants. This involves reviewing ethics clearance and conversing with students or staff who need support with the ethical aspects of their research.
The SLL REC currently comprises the following members:

Student Roles and Responsibilities
All student and academic researchers are required to complete an application for ethics clearance on the electronic Research Administration (eRA) system.
A certificate of ethical clearance will be issued to applicants who fulfil the requirements of ethical research as laid out in the UCT Guideline for Risk-Based Ethical Review of Research, involving human participants.
Guidelines
1. Log on to the eRA portal and navigate to Ethics Management.
2. Complete the pre-screening questionnaire.
3. If required, complete a full ethics application via the Ethics Applications tab.
