Convener: Dr L Mokwena Course entry requirements: Acceptance for a master's programme. This course will focus on artefacts and material culture through a historical lens. Students will grapple with the techniques, concepts and analytical skills required to critically and creatively engage with debates at the intersections of historical inquiry, object-driven scholarship, and studies in political life and its cultures. Substantively, this course will introduce students to theoretical debates on and empirical exemplars of new and old materialist accounts of social change, illuminating objects as the physical locus of complex and often opaque technical, cultural, as well as economic entanglements within and between societies. |
