BA (Hons) MA PhD Rhodes

Dr Gwyn Ortner is a Senior Lecturer in German Language and Literature at the University of Cape Town. She holds a doctorate in German Studies from Rhodes University (2020). Her research focuses on German as a Foreign Language (DaF), with particular emphasis on blended learning, digital media, and the role of collocations in language learning within the South African higher-education context. She is committed to inclusive, responsive, and student-centred language teaching and has contributed to the development of the Complex Adaptive Blended Language Learning Systems (CABLLS) framework. Her work has been recognised with the 2023 Humanities Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence.
