The Philosophy Society aims to foster and promote philosophy and philosophical thought in Cape Town by providing a forum for extra-mural philosophy lectures and discussions. The Society’s members include staff and students at UCT as well as interested people from the broader Cape Town community. Although some members have at least some formal training in philosophy, all talks at the society are intended to be accessible to people with no such a background.
Meetings are held one Tuesday evening a month during the academic year – usually February to May and July to October.
A speaker presents a lecture from 20h00 until 20h45. Discussion, over port or non-alcoholic beverage, then takes place in the Philosophy Department Common Room until around 21h30.
