Research Interests: Latin Prose; History of Classical Scholarship; Classical Reception Studies.

Before joining the University of Cape Town, I was Lecturer in Classics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. I have held visiting scholarships and fellowships at the Fondation Hardt, Harvard, Oxford, and St John’s College, Cambridge. I am also currently Reviews Editor for the journal Acta Classica and the archivist of the Classical Association of South Africa.

I am currently writing a commentary on Book 9 of Valerius Maximus’ Facta et dicta memorabilia, the only book of the work to have an unremitting focus on negative values. I am also interested in the history of classical scholarship and education, particularly in Africa.
