Professor Lungisile Ntsebeza represents UCT at the Global Transformation in IARU Member Strategies, in Beijing

Professor Ntsebeza with IARU delegates in Beijing where he presented a paper on Sino-South African economic relations, drawing on CAS research work on Chinese traders. 

Director of CAS and holder of the NRF Chair on Land Reform and Democracy and the A.C. Jordan Chair, Professor Lungisile Ntsebeza, has been appointed as UCT representative on the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU).  

The International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU), established in 2006, is a network of eleven international research-intensive universities from nine countries across the globe (the Australian National University, ETH Zurich, National University of Singapore, Peking University, University of California, Berkeley, University of Cambridge, University of Cape Town, University of Copenhagen, University of Oxford, the University of Tokyo and Yale University).

Ntsebeza will be presenting at the Global Transformation in IARU Member Strategies, in Beijing 7-9 May 2017 on ‘China-Africa relations in research in Higher Education’ with Miaojie Yu, China Centre for Economic Research. UCT was recently admitted to the IARU as the leading research university in Africa to share a global vision, values and a commitment to education in developing future world leaders.

The IARU benchmarks best practice in identifying shared / common positions on key public issues. Professor Ntsebeza will represent both the institution and the continent in being recognised as an international research leader in making a contribution to an economically sustainable society in post-apartheid South Africa.
