CAS POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS
Purpose:
The Centre for African Studies (CAS) has established a Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme under the auspices of the A C Jordan Chair in African Studies. One or more Postdoctoral research fellowships are offered to suitably qualified candidates who will be required to conduct research in the broad field of African studies which in our context is about the study of the peoples and cultures of Africa and the Diaspora.
Applicants are invited from suitably qualified individuals who will join the Centre for African Studies to conduct research related to the activities in the CAS.

Conditions of Award:
Applicants are required to meet the following conditions:
a. Attainment of a Doctoral degree in a relevant/related area of study, which must have been awarded within the past 5 years.
b. Applicants who have held academic and/or professional positions since obtaining the Doctoral degree will not be considered.
c. The successful candidates will be required to participate in the activities of the Centre as part of their professional development. Such activities will include limited teaching/supervision of postgraduate students, as well the planning of departmental seminars.
d. Successful candidates will be required to comply with the University of Cape Town’s policies, procedures and practices for the postdoctoral sector.

Value and Tenure:
The value of the CAS fellowship will be R250 000 annually, renewable annually subject to evidence of satisfactory academic performance and availability of funds.

Application Requirements:
The following documents will be required:
a. A letter of application indicating what you understand by African Studies at UCT and how you would fit in, include research interests, areas of expertise and experience in the field of African studies, or a related area.
b. Proof that the Doctoral degree has been attained, as per the conditions stated above.
c. A CV including a list of any publications
d. Certified copies of academic transcripts
e. The names and email addresses of at least two academics, who have taught, supervised or worked with the applicant.

Selection Process:
Eligible and complete applications will be considered by the A C Jordan Chair along with core members of the CAS.
