Zoe Monique Wells
Zoe graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Media Production: Screenwriting. She is most passionate about stories. Zoe says, “I feel like I've worked everywhere. The degree I chose wasn't the most practical, but I've found that it's not necessarily a bad thing. I've worked in the online learning industry, publishing industry (non-fiction), and I'm currently working as both a Social Media Account Manager and Copywriter for a start-up marketing agency”.
She says her degree helped her with content creation in the sense that she could use her script writing techniques to perfect the voice and tone of different brands. As a screenwriter she always has the audience in mind when she is craft her dialogue which is not far from what she does on a daily basis.
She most important lesson she has learnt since leaving UCT is, “never stop learning. If you can find a way to teach yourself different skills after you've obtained your degree, you should do it. You'll never find yourself wishing that you knew less or had less practical knowledge to apply to a task that is given to you on a whim. That's just not something that happens. Trust me, your future self will thank you for it.”
Her advice for incoming students is, “Don't take your first year too seriously. Join clubs, explore the campus, and say hi to the stranger sitting next to you in class. Most importantly, if you find yourself on Upper Campus and you're having a bad day, go to Leslie Social and eat the vegan lady's food! The queue is long, but you'll be ready to take on the world after one of her bowls.”
