Robert Fitchet
Robert graduated with his Honours in Media Theory and Practice in 2014. He describes himself as “a creative entrepreneur with a slight marathon-running addiction.” His ultimate passion is to tell compelling human stories - regardless of the medium. He is the co-founder and Director of Sledgehammer Studio, a Cape Town-based full-service film production company: www.sledgehammerstudio.co.za. The Sledgehammer brand was formed soon after graduation and it has been the singular focus of my working career since. As with all startups the formative stages were difficult, however Sledgehammer has gone from strength to strength and now has a client base that includes Cape Town Tourism, Wesgro and Babylonstoren. His career highlights so far include piloting and developing season two of the Cape Town Tourism Love Neighbourhoods Series, and winning an award at the prestigious Art & Tur International Tourism Film Festival in Leiria, Portugal for our 'N12 Treasure Route' film.
He says that, “most importantly the degree taught me how to articulate and substantiate my creative vision”. His fondest memory of the department was “The endless hustling to make films happen”. His advice for incoming students is to “Gain as much work experiences as you possible can whilst studying!”
