Rachel Sherwen
Rachel is an enthusiastic creative filmmaker who is passionate about photography, social work and issues. In her honours degree for film, she undertook the documentary course during which she directed “Line By Line”, a documentary about rape culture at South African universities. Thereafter, she spent her gap year in Thailand handling its distribution, which was “difficult but possible” according to the ambitious filmmaker. “Line By Line” was successful and was featured by Marie Claire magazine. She is currently based at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping and is handling all of their digital media, which she will soon be doing for regional malls that fall under EBM. While she is learning so much about marketing and the corporate world, she also gets to be creative in many different areas, such as photography, videography and copywriting in her current position. Her fondest memory of the department was her Honours year where she says “I met numerous incredible people, both lecturers and fellow students, who pushed me, inspired me and had faith in me. When I think back to university, I smile because of these people. Also, call me a nerd but I loved my time in the library.” She advises new students to be patient and believes that the right opportunities will present themselves at the right time.
