She graduated in 2016 with an Honours degree in Media theory and practice. In January 2017, she started her first job at, television company, Kwesé as an EPG Editor. After about 6 months, she was promoted to a Digital Entertainment Editor role. Jessica highlights that her postgraduate year at UCT helped her identify her passion, drive and dedication to the work she is now doing.
Her thesis was focused on digital media and involved a case study of a working media company. She says “that’s the beauty of the course… we were given the freedom to investigate something we were passionate about and that interested us”. She, further, explains that by “entering a department that is so accepting and being surrounded by people like you just gives you the freedom to really grow and find yourself”. She also emphasises the importance of the guidance she received from her supervisor Ron Irwin. Shr states that “he made me feel like I could really create something great and achieve the marks I wanted”. She encourages new students not to be afraid to ask for help.
