Tired Tides
Jessie Diepeveen is a third-year Theatre Making student at the University of Cape Town. For the last three years, she has worked as a voice artist, and in the beginning of 2021, she featured as a lead, Candice, in SABC 2’s teen drama, Signal High. Jessie has a passion for singing, and since working on this choreography project, and receiving technical training through the University, would love to gain experience in musical theatre. When she graduates, she hopes to further explore the applied theatre industry, particularly working with children, and also to delve into the world of object theatre.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Tired Tides is a pensive movement piece that speaks to the anti-paradise of polluted oceans. I want the audience to recognise that our paradisiacal view of the ocean is unrealistic due to human activity, but not impossible if humanity answers its silent wail for cleansing.
